Can you offer a young person an opportunity within your business?

From 3rd September, applications opened for businesses to join the new scheme introduced by the government called the Kickstart Scheme – the aim of which is to provide funding to employers to create job placements for 16-24 year olds. Employment under the scheme can only start on 1st November 2020 and will continue for any 6 month period until the scheme ends in December 2021.

These new jobs must be good quality jobs with the promise of built in job training and the chance to gain essential experience, skills and confidence to allow a stepping stone to further employment.

If you are allocated the funding, it will cover 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus the NI contributions and minimum pension contributions.  Employers can top up the pay out of their own pockets or extend the hours if they wish.

Employers will also receive £1,500 per job placement for set up costs, support and training.

Anyone who is 16-24, out of work and claiming Universal Credit may be eligible and it is estimated there are more than half a million who fall into this category.

Tesco and Network Rail have already stated they will take part, with Tesco creating 1,000 placements.



How do you apply?

If you can 30 places or more, you can apply on the website:

We don’t anticipate any of our clients will have more that 30 places to offer, so you will need to apply through a representative of a group of employers who can then submit an application on your behalf. This can be done by joining a group of other employers, nominating a representative to submit the application, or registering your interest with existing representatives, such as local authorities, chambers of commerce or trade bodies.
